Many have reported that random lifestyle changes and consumption of certain foods can aid depression however it should not be taken lightly and any form of treatment attempted should be done so with caution. However, if you opt for natural remedies for depression, they can be done without the need for extra care or supervision. These treatments can include simply a change in how you carry out your life as well as consuming certain natural foods like omega-3 fatty acids as well as following a proper diet.

One of the most common natural depression remedies is St John’s wart. Besides its peculiar name, it is a natural herb that grows in abundance in the United States and is known to have properties to aid the depression symptoms. This is one of the natural remedies for depression that are available over the counter at a pharmacy or even any convenience good store.

Interestingly despite its widespread availability, acceptance and used to treat depression as well as other mental disorders such as anxiety, some studies tend to show that St. John’s Wart is barely as effective as a sugar pill, also referred to as a placebo. Nevertheless, there are patients who have shown improvement following administration of St. John’s Wart so it’s worth a shot.

Another one of the depression natural remedies that is beneficial for several reasons is the omega 3 oil. This is also referred to as fish oil as it is a component found in fish. Omega-3 is a type of fat but it is the healthy, good kind that is instrumental for the body for various processes. Omega-3 is known to show a marked improvement in depressed people.

The results for the effectiveness of omega-3 are also rather mixed. Despite the inconclusive findings, one reason why fish oils are regarded as effective for depression is based on geographical depression statistics. Countries that incorporate a diet high in fish oils have a lower rate of depression in comparison to countries that don’t. There is a notable resemblance in the findings which suggests that omega-3 is in fact beneficial in getting rid of the symptoms for the disorder.

Besides these natural treatments, other common and simple natural remedies for depression include increased exposure to light (light therapy), exercising as well as alteration of diet. Depression is a dangerous condition however it can be treated and controlled with simple procedures.
