Getting about your day with depression can be very challenging. A depressed person has a variety of negative feelings that overwhelm them constantly. As the intensity of these emotions increase, it can be very difficult to deal with. Due to this, there are several effects of depression. Side effects of depression include the inability to cope up with all areas of your life. this includes your personal life, social life, professional life as well as your family life. A common experience with depressed people is the lack of enthusiasm to start the day. They may instead, choose to wallow in their negativity and stay in bed when it is morning for several hours after. There are also several physical effects of depression such as insomnia or hypersomnia as well as a perpetual lack of energy throughout the day.

Effects of depression on the body can differ depending on the person. Some people may experience significant muscle pain while others simply have a gnawing headache for the most part of a day. Fatigue and lack of energy is another typical physical symptom associated with depression. The mental perception of depressed people can heavily tax the body as well. When a person is mentally unfit, it reflects in their physical appearance as well. They may either become overweight or underweight. They may practice poor hygiene which can eventually lead to secondary infections.

Most effects tend of depression tend to get worse over the long term. Long term effects of depression stem for the short term effects. As symptoms such as over-eating or under-eating mature, it can lead to drastic changes in physical appearance. This may make the person more depressed. Long term effects include becoming obese or critically underweight as well as developing other serious conditions. It has kind of a domino effect, where a series of symptoms lead to other symptoms developing. The eventual symptom which is also the most dangerous is becoming suicidal. A depressed person should be identified and treated before the condition progresses this far as it may be challenging to have an eye and keep the person safe at all times.

Depression can affect different individuals in unique ways. This depends on the cause and prior personality of the person before the depression took its toll. It is not uncommon to find rare, unique symptoms that are linked to depression which is why a professional diagnosis is always required.
