April 18th, 2012 admin Overview & Facts depression 0 comments

Depression has gained widespread attention over the years even more so than other dangerous diseases. The reason the disorder has been given the spotlight is because it could lead to suicide. There are numerous stories that have gained considerably popularity regarding severe cases of depression in teens and adults that have brought the condition to everyone’s attention. Suicidal depression starts to occur when symptoms have progressed to a severe state. Sadly, this level of the condition can be easily avoided if the condition is diagnosed early on and treatment is undertaken.

The typical symptoms of the condition is loss of interest and motivation, lethargy, negativity, sadness as well as a series of other generic physical symptoms from headaches to nausea. Depression suicidal thoughts start to occur when the loss of interest symptom worsens. A person, who is apathetic and indifferent towards something, doesn’t really care about it and what happens to it. As apathy worsens, the person starts to contemplate about various aspects of life and doesn’t see the point in virtually anything from career to relationships and other major aspects. Eventually, the person starts to ponder over the point of life which is when suicidal tendencies start to occur.

Suicidal thoughts can occur for a number of reasons. Apathy is simply one of them and is the main reason for depression and suicidal thoughts. Other reasons for suicide contemplation is fear which can be brought on by a lack of safety, drug abuse, extreme trauma occurring over several different life events as well as other reasons.

Any form of depression should be considered as suicidal depression. Even a person with mild symptoms should be treated as a patient who could be potentially suicidal. This ensures that treatment is efficiently administered and prevents the possibility of the disorder ever developing to such a severe state. There are however some symptoms of suicidal depression that suggests that a person may be contemplating the act. Extreme apathy is one of them, being constantly sad and negative is another sign.

The best way to ensure that you are aware of a person’s suicidal tendencies is to have constant communication with someone suffering from the disorder. Based on what they communicate, you should be able to pick up a few cues that suggests they may be having these thoughts. These patients should be watched carefully and treated promptly.
