Depression and Headaches

April 7th, 2012 admin Overview & Facts depression 0 comments

Your brain is constantly functioning. Everything you do, whether it is a mental or physical activity requires a healthy, stable brain in order to carry out tasks efficiently and with maximum productivity. This is why irrespective of a mental or physical task, after long hours of work and straining, you can feel the tension emanating from your head. Considering the brain is one organ that is continuously functioning, it can be fairly normal to experience headaches every once in a while. However, as virtually any process in the body utilizes the brain, it can be difficult to isolate the cause if you happen to get a headache. Usually, headaches are caused for random reasons that aren’t too serious. Simply sleeping it off or having a painkiller should do the trick. There are times however, where headaches can be chronic such as in the case of migraines which are persistent severe headaches that occur every once in a while.

Another common cause of headaches is depression. Depression headaches are very commonly experienced in individuals who are suffering from the disorder. Considering the prevalence of the condition, depression headaches alone can be used to suspect the possibility of a person having a bout or episode of the disorder. Depression and headaches are closely related because it is a common symptoms and it is almost always present in an individual suffering from the condition.

Despite headaches and depression commonly occurring together, many people wonder can depression cause headaches. The reason behind depression headaches are still unclear however the constant negativity and change in perception associated with the disorder certainly plays a role in inducing headaches in the depressed person on a constant basis. The headaches are usually mild to moderate in intensity. While severe headaches are possible, it is not commonly experienced in depressed victims.

Treatment for depression headaches can be done quite easily. As it is usually not severe, most people opt to simply deal with it while mild painkillers or simply a nap will do the trick as well. The main issue is that it is persistent and recurs. Having a nap or consuming a painkiller each time on the onset of a headache may be unhealthy in the long term, the best way to treat these headaches is to get rid of the depression altogether. This can be done by following a methodical treatment regime combining a number of treatment methods.
