Anger and Depression in Women and Men

Depression is a mental disorder that is closely related to a person’s emotions. It triggers a variety of emotions in a person. Typically, these emotions are rather passive such as sadness, apathy, worthlessness and hopelessness. Anger is usually not a symptom associated with depression but there are instances when anger and depression can be related. Depression and anger in men is typically more prevalent than anger and depression in women. Additionally, teens suffering from the condition, particularly males, may have outbursts of anger and aggression. While it isn’t usual, it is certainly possible. The type of depression can also link depression and anger. Manic depression as well as bipolar depression is known to result in spells of anger and frustration.

Based on certain studies, there is a deeper connection between depression and anger. Apart from the symptom being exhibited by individuals suffering from the condition, there is research to suggest that bottling up your anger towards someone or something can also eventually be a trigger for the disorder. Based on this, anger plays a crucial role in the fight against depression. For this reason, it is essential for people to learn to let go and forgive. Anger is a powerful emotion and we all experience every once in a while but it is certainly a destructive and negative one. Many a person has regretted what they have said and done after a burst of anger. When you’re angry, adrenaline is produced which may result in you reacting in a manner that is impulsive and not your usual course of action.

Learning to manage your anger can be crucial in alleviating the symptoms and preventing from developing the disorder in the first place. There are numerous ways to get rid of anger. The old “count to 10” trick alone can do wonders and help you get a hold of yourself if you’re frustrated. Suppressing your anger is not the answer. In fact, suppressing should be avoided at all costs as it may lead to the dreaded depression. Instead, figure out ways to deal with it. Seek a self-help guru or course which teaches you to think in a way and alter your perception so that you remain calm and rarely get angry. Learn to let go. This one tip alone can take you a long way. If you master the art of controlling your anger, you would be a lot more content. As an added incentive, you will be at less risk of developing the condition.
